Upgrading QGIS

Quantum GIS is an opensource software which is rapidly growing among community. Hence, you may be need to upgrade it to the very new version (stable or non-stable). To get all new features work, you have to uninstall the old QGIS before install the new one.
1. Fetch new version from Ubuntu’s repository

sudo apt-get update

Remove the old QGIS

sudo apt-get autoremove --purge qgis

Install the new one

sudo apt-get install qgis python-qgis

Auto Login

You can auto login in Caxradonya using Menu> Accessories> LXTerminal:

sudo leafpad /etc/lxdm/default.conf

Find this line:

autologin=caxradonya

Replace “caxradonya” with your username and save the file. You will auto login into your account in the next booting.

Keyboard Shortcut

You can make a shortcut for your favorite application(s). To do it, install xbindkeys-config using Menu> Preferences> Synaptic Package Manager. Or simply use LXTerminal and type this:

sudo apt-get install xbindkeys-config

Dual Boot

If you already have other operation systems (e.g. Windows XP), then you can dual boot with Caxradonya Sate Matang. However, after installation, the Grub only show Linux and will not show other operating systems to choose. To make it appear on the next booting, type this command in Menu> Accessories> LXTerminal:

sudo update-grub

Afterwards, reboot your Caxradonya and you will see Windows XP at the bottom line of Grub.

Canon Printer on Caxradonya 1.0

To use a Canon printer such as Canon PIXMA MP198 on Caxradonya 1.0 (Sate Matang), follow these steps:

A. Get the drivers (applicable for other Canon’s products).

Go to software.canon-europe.com
Look at “Multifunctional” category, choose “PIXMA MP190″.
In PIXMA MP190′s page, choose “Linux” as the operating system, select your language, then press “Submit”.
Two options appear, so choose “Debian Linux Printer & Scanner Drivers”.
At the bottom line, click “MP190_debian_drivers.tar”, accept the agreement, then download the file.

B. Installation

Download libcupsys2 (or you can also try this way) and install it using the following command in Menu>Accessories>LXTerminal (example for libcupsys2_1.3.9-17ubuntu3.7_all.deb):
```
sudo dpkg -i libcupsys2_1.3.9-17ubuntu3.7_all.deb
```
Extract MP190_debian_drivers.tar using Menu>Accessories>Xarchiver. Additionally, extract other two files in it. Then, install the four Debian packages one by one starting with the “common” packages. Alternately, you also can install all of them at the same time by moving them in to the same folder, then using LXTerminal type the following command in that folder:
```
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
```
Plug the printer’s USB cable to computer, turn printer on, then Caxradonya will recognize the printer automatically; in the end, try a print test page.
